Christmas Special 2016

wdsaveschristmas

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, Merry MegaChristmas, Festivus and all the rest of it!  Warui Deshou is proud to bring you what we hope will become a holiday tradition, our Holiday Special.  Join Vorgelia, Doc and Shadon as they count down their top five anime of the year, play a few games, share some laughs, and thank some folks who’ve helped out Warui Deshou along the way this year.  There might even be a visit from our old pal, Zyvox.  We all hope this will make your holiday a bit brighter.  We love you all!  Thank you for listening, and Merry Christmas!

As a Christmas gift to ourselves, we didn’t edit this episode.  We filtered the tracks as usual, but no fine-tuning, cutting and pasting nonsense.  As such, you will hear some cross talk, some jokes we’d normally cut, some coughing, some silences.  Think of this as a live-to-tape sort of show.  We will bring back our editing hand next time, we promise!

THIS IS NOT OUR TYPICAL FORMAT.  Check numbered episodes to get an idea of what the show is usually like.

This show features music by Michael Kelly, Frank Sinatra and myuu, with sound effects from freesound.org.  Zyvox’s Computer is voiced by Code Welt as always, and our lady robot is voiced by soundoftext.com as always.

BONUS EPISODE – Code Orange

orange1

The Subtle Doctor and Shadon grab their mics to discuss a recent anime (shocking I know!) named Orange, which aired in the Summer 2016 season.

Orange is a show that broaches a topic often not discussed in media or fiction: suicide. It’s mature and sombre depiction of the matter is worth praise and discussion, although the show isn’t without its flaws (Shadon in particular almost had an aneurysm at one point).

So join us with this bonus slice of Warui Deshou as Doc and Shads discuss Orange in depth and offer their thoughts both on the serious and the silly moments of the show, and of how we all can learn from it to be more open with each other and that there is always help out there for those traveling a darker road.

Episode 5: Phantom Requiem For The Phantom / Part 1

phantom featureed

Ein, Zwei, Drei… why, oh, why did this happen? Well, in Shadon’s hands we once again ended up watching something less than appealing, an anime from his past named Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. And by “less than appealing” we really mean “like a ten car train derailment”.

An adaptation of a Nitroplus visual novel of the same name, Phantom is a show that had all the necessary ingredients to be good: original material by Gen Urubuchi, Yousuke Kuroda at the helm, and a potentially compelling story about identity, the loss thereof and rediscovering one’s humanity. But alas, it was not to be.

With Vorgelia returning from a brief break and special guest Yellow Redfield bringing his knowledge of the visual novel to the table, can Warui Deshou survive another round of a terrible anime? Will Shadon ever pick a good show to watch? Will the name Scythe Master ever not cause uncontrollable laughter? Find out in Part One of Warui Deshou’s discussion of Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom!
